Caux - The Palace above Montreux

The Swiss hotel management school in Caux is  located in the historic Caux Palace, SHMS enjoys its unique location close to the lively city of Montreux. Montreux is found in one of the most majestic and beautiful parts of Switzerland: the Swiss Riviera, known for its mild climate and visited by hundreds of thousands of tourists each year. Montreux has a lot to offer all year round!

Leysin - The ski and sports resort

Leysin is an international ski resort offering students a wide range of recreational and sporting activities. In Leysin, SHMS is housed in two former hotels the Mont-Blanc Palace and the Belvédère, linked by our SHMS Skytrain. Thanks to its quiet and peaceful atmosphere, Leysin is an ideal place for hotel management studies and is increasingly developing into an international study resort, home to many international schools and universities.

The campuses in Caux and Leysin both offer state-of-the-art accommodation and learning facilities.

Leisure

SHMS' Leisure Managers organise a wide range of sports and leisure activities as well as excursions and professional visits.

Sports, social activities and excursions provide an important balance to academic study. Many of these events are fully or partly funded by SHMS. School sports teams are also organised each term. These recreational activities allow students not only to get to know Switzerland better but also to relax and enjoy their stay while they study hospitality management

Undergraduate

 

SWISS DIPLOMA (Year 1 and 2)

Hotel Operations Management

All students who study the main programme at our hotel management school in Switzerland initially complete a 2 year Swiss Diploma in Hotel Operations Management. Students then have the option to continue with a Higher Diploma and then BA (Hons) Degree in Hospitality Management or to specialise in Events Management.

 

SWISS HIGHER DIPLOMA (Year 2.5)

International Hospitality Management

This option covers all subjects vital to students who are seeking to develop a successful management career in the hotel industry. Key elements include Food and Beverage Service and Production, Rooms Division Management and Housekeeping Management.

 

BRITISH AND SWISS BA (HONS) DEGREE (Year 3)

Hospitality Management

Continuing in the Hospitality Management stream, students of our hotel management school in Switzerland build upon their practical and vocational experiences, through the development of critical and analytical skills. The programme aims to develop future hospitality managers and equip them with the skills to manage a rapidly changing environment with confidence.

Hospitality and Events Management

This option is designed for students of our hotel management school in Switzerland who wish to specialise in events management with a view to entering this dynamic sector. Key elements include Event Project Planning and Management, Meetings, Incentive and Conference Markets.

 

Hospitality and Events Management or Pure Events Management

Continuing in the Hospitality and Events Management stream prepares students of our hotel management school in Switzerland for employment in the diverse and growing sector of events management. The programme is designed to develop the skills of independent decision making and critical thinking which are vital for a career in international events management.


 

Minimum Entry Requirements at our hotel management school in Switzerland - First Year

  • Min. age: 17 years*
  • High School Diploma or equivalent. SHMS may also recognise equivalent work experience
  • English: TOEFL 500+ or IELTS 5.0 or Oxford online Placement Test 50+ points**
  • For students with a lower level of English, we recommend our English Foundation program.

* Please note that students must be 18 years of age to commence the full-time industry internship. Those students who have not attained this age will be required to complete the second academic term at SHMS before commencing their first internship

Master's Degree in International Hospitality Management

 

MIB - Master of International Business in Hotel, Resort and Spa Management

 

The Master of Hospitality Management programme seeks to develop students' critical analytic skills and foster their creativity, so that they can respond effectively to key challenges facing the hospitality industry in an increasingly competitive market place. The key themes that recur throughout the programme include; human resources and the management of cultural diversity, strategic management and internationalization, the growth of IT and new business practices. There is a focus on research methods allowing students to develop a major piece of independent study..


The SHMS Masters in International Business (MIB) in Hotel, Resort and Spa Management is designed for aspiring individuals, seeking to achieve their management potential and to stand out from the crowd.

With its blend of experiential learning, management theory and strategy, the MIB is a challenging and exciting opportunity for the leaders of tomorrow.


 Minimum Entry Requirements for the MA

  • A bachelor's degree from an accredited, established, recognised university
  • Strong English language capabilities: for non-native English speakers, TOEFL 550, IELTS 6.0 or 70 points on the Oxford Online Placement Test.*
  • Applicants to the MA Hospitality Management must hold a degree in a related discipline and have a minimum of eight months relevant work experience. Mature applicants, with over 5 years supervisory work experience, will be considered without higher qualifications.

  • Minimum Entry Requirements for the MIB (PGD Year 1)

    • Bachelor Degree in any discipline OR at least 3 years work experience in a supervisory position in any industry.
    • English level equivalent to TOEFL 500, IELTS 5.0 or 50+ points on the Oxford Online placement test*.

    • Minimum Entry Requirements for the MIB (Direct Entry Year 2)

      • Successful completion of a SEG Postgraduate Diploma or equivalent (including a minimum 4 month internship period)
      • English level equivalent to TOEFL 525, IELTS 5.5 or 70 points on the Oxford Online Placement Test.*

Postgraduate Diploma (PGD)

The Postgraduate Diploma program (PGD) of our hotel management school in Switzerland is designed for candidates who have completed a Bachelor's Degree in any discipline or who have at least 3 years work experience at a supervisory level and wish to build a career in the hospitality industry. The PGD programmes are the perfect choice for professionals seeking a new challenge or career change.
